A notary public is an official appointed by the state government to witness and certify the signing of documents.
I can notarize a variety of documents, including affidavits, power of attorney, wills, deeds, and more.
You will need to provide a government-issued photo ID, such as a valid driver's license, passport, state ID, or older military ID to have a document notarized. Or, if a signer cannot locate valid identification, and is not personally known to the notary, a mutual friend, that will not benefit from the transaction, can be used as a credible witness.
Only older military ID cards may be used for identification because the recent military ID cards do not contain a signature or physical description on the card.
A Notary Public's duty is to certify that the signature being affixed to the document is that of the signer. The Notary must verify the identity of the signer and, in most cases, witness their signature on the document.
